The 3D Cell EM Core Facility was established in 2021 in the Center for Quantitative Cell Imaging for the purpose to support biological research with specialized TEM imaging.
We work in coordination with other UW facilities. Visit the UW Madison Research Core Directory for more information.
Amy Strydom – Core Manager
Amy joined the 3D Cell EM Core in November 2024. She is originally from South Africa and has a background in Food Science, Microbiology and Virology. She has extensive experience in conventional transmission electron microscopy and tomography.

Marisa Otegui – Core Director
Marisa is a professor in Botany (Otegui lab) and her research focuses on the regulation of vesicle trafficking mechanisms in plant cells. She has more than 20 years of experience in using electron microscopy.

Hong Zhan – Scientific Advisor
Hong has extensive expertise in electron microscopy imaging and specialized in structural biology using single-particle cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography, computational data analysis, structural interpretation, and 3D visualization.
